Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I just looked at the mite article. Your photos are cute. If they had put any of the other pics on the carousel, no one would read the article. Very CREEPY. Mites.... shudder.

Glad that Chester/Chewy/ChickityChina is settling in so well. Oh, now I'm going to have Bare Naked Ladies in my head all night.

LMC, nice egg! I haven't seen a white egg is such a long time... my gang started laying 10 months ago now... I really should add a white egg layer to the flock.
Be careful who you choose. Some of those white egg layers can be a bit macho psycho aggressive.

You tawkin' bout me?

I can't be having that! the RIR's are enough to deal with! maybe I'll find a set of toy eggs to throw in the basket for the sake of a photo... and skip the probability of trouble in the ranks... although, that's one healthy looking chicken you've got there... beautiful

Actually, there is a beautiful white egg layer that is supposed to be calmer, but they are not super common. Look up Campine, gold or silver. They are on my wish list for future breeds.

I have just plan o leg horns. So far not aggressive at all. In fact none are aggressive. They all act like dogs. Lol they like to be petted and talked to. I have RIR, BO, WLW, BR, jersey giant, frizzle bantams ameraucana and 11 Dominique month old chicks. 32 in all.

(article was written in December '12, I remember being asked for permission to use photos, and of course... giving it... but it shows that I don't surf around here much, I pretty much only hang out here)

I actually saw it on Facebook first. I was like... hey... that's my picture! yep... that's my lilac, I remember that day, even tho' it was last fall. so I clicked on the link and sure enough, Pictures by Cheeka... there's one of Betty too... and nice pictures from other people, all credited perfectly... nice article..

14 Eggs today, nothing hatched yet, but tomorrow is the more likely hatch day anyway with Violet being a bit inconsistent towards the end. She's been back in her spot in the apple coop, and several girls are missing neck feathers ~ if they try to lay within reach of Violet, she constantly harasses them, pecking at their necks. Blossom looks a mess... she's missing almost all of her thick Farrah Fawcett style neck feathers. The hatching eggs arrived today, packed individually in air capsules. I'm letting them settle from shipping until tomorrow at least... then I will make the big move and give them to Violet. Hopefully she will do better with these...

Chester/Chewy/ChickityChina is doing so well. he pooped, so he's getting back on schedule with his movements...and he is learning to relax, we took a nice 2 hour nap, Ruby woke up first, nudging me to say "it's suppertime", he would've slept on a bit more... later, he gave a crystal clear signal that he had to go out to pee... so far, so good! I walk him so many times and often he doesn't pee at all. he's so used to being forced to hold it...
You take some awesome pictures, so thats fantastic they gave credit to you for providing it.
Hope you have good luck with the eggs!
Wonderful news so far on Chester, I bet he works out just fine. He just needed the right person to love him.

Quote: How do you like your Jersey Giants? I saw some enormous ones at a show and thought they would be great to have around. Heard their eggs are not as big as you'd expect. Are yours laying? Big eggs? My biggest egg comes from the, who else, Leghorn (with the New Hampshire a close second).

Biscuit is very friendly to people and loves to sit on your lap. She is food obsessed to an extreme, though, and does stir the pot, so to speak. Chases after other hens and 4 of them are getting bald from her mounting them.

Things would probably be different if I had a rooster. The other hens are all different dual purpose breeds and are all less intense than Biscuit. My BR, Spot, who shares the top of the pecking order, never chases anyone and only rarely pecks. She has an intimidating stare and a good fake out move that the others respond to quickly. Biscuit gives no warnings, and goes straight into attack mode with very little provocation. I've isolated her from the others a few times and they are all much calmer without her. Would have traded her for something else, but my little sweetie pie son loves her because she is so personable. He named her so I guess we have to keep her!

Biscuit's on my knee with Spot below making sure she is not being naughty.
