Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Had to think about the girls and what's best for them. Too many roos and not enough hens yet Besides I have another Delaware roo in the batch of new chicks if I decide to keep one.

you're overrun?

Royce is 18 months, Si and Archie are roughly 16 months, Carl is 10 months, I have the 5

fancy Stillwater Banty Boys, the 2 perty Middleburgh banty boys all 6 months, and 2 more banty Marans cross that are roughly 11 weeks...

processing Carl is a necessity, probably should process all the big boys but 1... but I can't. I am a

sap.

A few nights ago I put 30 chickens in the garden. After going in the house, I turned to my husband, and asked, "Now how do I get them out?"
The roof is three feet at the entrance (bird netting), and I have a covered metal tank stand for them to go into. Well, I did figure out how to get them out next week, but it was a shocking half hour while I realized what I had done!
So I have a week(ish) to get the coop fixed and cleaned. Then I have to rig up a tunnel to get the chickens from the garden to the remodeled coop. All this stuff has led me to a question. How the heck do you hang a door by yourself? And how do you spread a 14 X 14 sheet of bird netting by yourself?
Hope everyone has been well in the past two weeks. My egg numbers are down pretty far, and the Marans have not begun laying yet. They are 7 months old. To be fair, they weren't in with the layers until the garden. I am hoping they get to it now.

most of my older girls are not laying or at least not regularly. Blu hasn't laid in 2 months. Isis continued to lay, which is why she re-feathered so very slowly. same for BR Betty... Rose has been giving about 3 eggs a week, but somethings up... she skips the color coat every time. her eggs have a very rough texture as well. Wilma is not laying, she's on strike. parades around along the front wall bawking her protests... surprised she's not carrying a sign.
the younger one's are good for 4 eggs or so each per week... so about half of them lay each day... there are 13 of them, now 14, soon to be 16, then quickly to 20 with the cochins. it will be nice to have steady eggs over the winter. I'm figuring I need to add about a dozen pullets a year to keep the flow...

hey MC! good to hear from you! hanging a door by yourself is tricky, but the netting isn't. I spread it out, and tie two cords to the end closest to the object I want to cover. I toss the cords to the other side and head over to pull it up and over. snags occur from time to time, but they are easy to lift, usually by ruffling... as for the door, pre-drill, so you can hold the door with one hand and slip screws in with the other and hand tighten till all are in, then zip with the drill...

Rehomed my big Heritage Delaware rooster tonight. A friend was glad to get him. By far my best looking bird. He will be the crown jewel of his flock. Wish I could keep them all.
Ugh OK i am sorry. But he will sure be apprecated by the new owner!
I think we may have a touch of cocci in the brooder coop!

Noticed some bloody poo in there this morning.... Going to have hubby pick up some meds on his way home.
Oh no.. good luck. Corid is the way to go.
storms are going to hit us today, super high winds, rain, thunder, lightning... hope to get home before it's too rough! I'll need to make sure the pens for Peach and the Cochins are okay, they are the only ones without lots of protective covering, just tarps on the roofs. the bachelor pens have trees to help block weather and the dome's vinyl has been pulled over for complete coverage. the last time we had drenching rains, poor Peach's nest had a couple of inches of water sitting in it... I felt so bad. it has since been moved to a more central spot in her pen, so that helped a lot...

the mail has been coming extremely late on a daily basis, so late, some of the larger routes cannot be completed in the time given before the outgoing trucks depart... at least not completed safely... I have to take an hour's worth of mail from 2 other routes. last Monday, the mail was over 2 hours late. wonder how long we'll be waiting today...?
Its finally stopped here. We got over six inches of rain!
It just started raining over night here. I left the coop window open a little last night so I am hoping that it didn't rain in. I will go down when it gets light out and check on everyone. Guess they get to stay voted up today! Wish I had a big bag of goodies to give them to keep them busy. Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Stay safe!
ty lindz hope you dont get all this rain.

If the roos aren't mean I keep them. Red and Rebel are in jail. still...
Both will rejoin the flock this week. If either attacks me that's it. stew....
They are both very prolific roos but I don't need a mean bird and won't breed it into my flock.
It will upset me a lot. I cant give them away, so I have no choice,
Reds sons are as bad, just as mean, Has really made me not like GLW at all.
Rebel is cruel to his hens and pecks them after he mates them.
Several of my girls had bleeding combs and I won't allow it again.
Bruce my BA Roo is real sweet to his girls, and I noticed my older hens like him a lot
If those 2 boys are a problem again they will be going. I have 6 roos and 2 turkeys planned to process tomorrow,
Red and Rebel both may be on the list this week, my patience with them is beyond worn out
