Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

So my husband got inspired this weekend and started on our farm plan. This is what we can afford to do in the first year. I wish we could do it all.

Happy to take any advice from others.

The back rectangle is where we will have the pigs (2-5 at a time) and temporarily the goats that are scheduled to be born next year (pigs won't come until goats move to their real pasture the following year). This space will have a pole barn that is pretty bare on the inside. Maybe a couple of divisions for hay, birthing, etc...

The middle rectangle is the orchard/garden. My husband wants apple and peach trees and we already have a huge fig tree that we hope to move there as well.

The front small squares are the chicken coop and run. The run will be 16x16 and totall enclosed. We are putting it there to take advantage of two sides of the fence that will be there for the property line/garden. We also thought having the chickens there would be good because we could have an opening that allowed them into the garden when we want to go through and clean up after the end of the year or whatnot.

love the speckled egg lindz! really cool looking, wonder if it's a color coat fluke or if you'll get more like it.

2.5 hour wait for the mail yet again... and when i left to start delivering, it was flurrying. I had a gut feeling, so I called the office and told the clerk to not be surprised if Ms So and So returns to the office after her first hour and asks for help, the snow was getting heavy and it was slippery. sure enough. I was right. there is a 3rd route in our office, run by a highway contract driver, and he's on vacation. he hired 2 women to run the route as I can't do it all, although I do know his route... anyway, they had trouble and were looking for help too. all I could do for them was give them good advice. slow and steady. if you can't get there, skip it. just keep track of roads you can't pass so we can make a report when you get back and we'll make another attempt tomorrow. do not take risks. they made it. and I took 2 hours worth of the other route, so Ms SnS made it too. Phew. I got back at first dark, and was able to use my cell phone screen to look for eggs. I found 5 this morning, all chilly, so probably from yesterday, and I found 1 more tonight.

6 Eggs today! have to bring a dozen with me to sell on the route tomorrow.

great plan CLindz! doing it right in the first place will save you years of aggravation and rebuilding/restructuring... it would be awesome to have the ability to snap our fingers and have it all done at once, but you'll have the rest of your lives to enjoy the farm by doing it this way...

Thanks cheeka! Not sure what is up with it! I am pretty sure that it is probably just a coating fluke, but Bonnie is 22 weeks, so right around POL, and it may be hers.... I don't really think so though. I am hoping that she lays a blue egg, but we will see!

It has been a wet, windy, yucky, cold day here, but the sun did come out for a bit this afternoon. I got 4 eggs from the G.comets today.

Wow, lots of great ideas! It does take time, but slower is really better in the long run.

really cool ice formations - looks like silk.

I got 2 eggs today, the Marans egg is getting darker, I will have to take an egg basket picture. the contrasts are lovely... no egg from the fosters today, I should hear from their owner over the weekend. wonder what will be...? if I get "stuck" with all of them, I don't want the roosters.
