Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Free range was a nightmare. She was the first one out. She got back about a hour after dark. I have no idea where she went or what she did. Waiting to see. Fully expect to see law enforcement before morning. That's how she rolls.

OK.. you should let HER stay in the slammer if SHE gets caught pilfering food. Although.... they may pay you to take ROGER back.

You could put her in a box without a return address and ship her off to parts unknown.

Scrambles, I know it's frustrating, but do not throw in the towel for Rump just yet, it's only been maybe 2 weeks? both OK and I have had injured chickens without the ability to walk. they both healed perfectly, but it took a good 6-7 weeks. patience, grasshopper...

this is the hen that wouldn't give up the nest yesterday. but she's up today - and there were 11 eggs altogether. I figure she was sitting on at least 3 or 4 yesterday and the rest are from today. anyway, she hopped up on her own, and at first I was shocked... then happy, then realized I was being played... she was the distraction... while we were having a "moment" the others were busting into my egg basket to steal an egg and EAT it! yup... that's what they did all right!

top photo, the sun came out and it's blurry because I had the camera on the wrong setting. but I like it and it should be made into a watercolor for my "office"... except I'd rather be smiling.

then the clouds moved in...

she's soooo sweet (if only I'd known!)

I know I look insane, but you would too if you were that close to a potential pooper!
28 eggs in the count so far, with 27 in the basket.

Thanks Cheeka.... I have not given up. I will continue to treat her as best I can. I think I will e mail my vet today. Rumples is not using the nest box in the broody pen, so I am going to take it out and put up a mini roost for the Bungees. I call them that because when I pick one up and walk away from Rumples... as soon as I let them down, then run back to her like little bungees. The wasps have bloomed in full force. I feel like its a battle out there. I just spent over $60 on traps and sprays. No worries.. the spray is for the non chicken areas. I am even putting DE on the areas that seem to attract the stinging buggers for wood. I am not sure if that works on wasps though. Two eggs so far and Si is on the nest.

I am ready to give up!!!!! I let a friend have the 6 remaining littles yesterday... then this morning I found Eleanore dead in a nest box. I've gone from 28 to 18 chickens this week!!!! At this rate, I will be chicken-less this time next week!
