Yeah, not sure about the temp difference. Let your house get colder maybe! haha! Ours is usually 60 this time of year, but that's the outside temp too.

I think winter may be very hard on her. If you've got her up off the ground (on a hay pile?), away from drafts, and under the heat light, she should be warm enough. Seems like a lot of extra work for you. Does she get visitors during the day?

Look up Sweeter Heaters. I'm going to get one for the dogs for when they are in the garage. Belle is getting older and gets cold and stiff in temps under 55, even with a jacket on. Dogs can't be alone in the house with the new cats.

I can use it (the heater) for the Seramas if it gets below freezing.

It's hard to find a good all-flock type of feed here. So much layer feed, but I don't want the added calcium for the youngsters. Your eggs may just be the tipping point to get me to try fermentation. I have been reluctant to add one more thing to do around here, but those eggs sure are beautiful!

I don't do anything special.... I just put the crumbles in a bucket and cover with water. I make sure that I put enough water so that when the feed soaks it up then there is still a couple of inches of water over the feed. When I get ready to feed, I pour off the water and add enough dry feed to get it to the consistency of cornbread batter (still moist, but not sloppy). After I'm done feeding, I pour the water back in, add a little more dry feed and water if needed. I always try not to feed the bucket empty so I have some as a "starter". It has a sweet/tangy smell, but never an alcohol smell. During the summer it can get a milky stuff on top of the water but you can stir that down into the feed, and add a little extra dry feed at the end and it is fine. I have NO waste, and feed 1x/day...... Mornings during the winter with some scratch in the evening.... Evenings during the summer with free-range during the day.

ETA: Even just moistening the feed the night before feeding helps! I actually started doing that to begin with.
