Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

yeah, chick season... you can get them all year round, in limited breeds and quantities, but the big shipments are early March, mostly for warmer climates, and end April for the colder. but I deliver them all year round... just more of course, in Spring.

still nothing going on under Gossy. end of day 23. I haven't candled, should but I have no time. there's so much to be done when I finally get home, I know it won't take long, but honestly.. between dogs, cats, dinner, laundry, having the plumber up tonight to fix the broken pipe and get the furnace running... I have too many excuses, but I'll take them away on the morning of day 26. Gossy hatched on day 25. remember that...

so, I got up extra early this morning. went to check on Gossy and attempt to candle her eggs. I picked one up, quite heavy... but before I got to look at it, she geezed a huge wet farty poop, right in the nest. back went the egg and out I spent my available time cleaning the nasty mess.

my brother, SIL, niece and nephew are "nearby" skiing for a couple of days. they are pretty close to where I'm working and want me to join them this evening for a meal and to maybe go to Woodstock. after such a long day, I know I'm not up for much... we'll see what comes as the day progresses

I would be fretting, and googling and diagnosing...Ah, the life of a first-year chicken mother! (Not counting when I had them at 10 years old.)

Nah. Not really how I roll. Maggie has laid 2 eggs in a day before, so it's not that unusual. Normally she doesn't drop them from the roost, but I figure when you've got 2 eggs up in there, when it's time to lay em, it's time to lay em! Doesn't worry me because if she does encounter health problems because of her habit of sometimes laying 2 eggs in a day...well there isn't anything I could do about that. We'll just have to take it as it comes. Hopefully one of these days she gives me one of those egg inside an egg deals.

6/6 today but 2 froze before I got out there at 8 am so we netted 4. The girls got the frozen ones.

Hey guys! 16 eggs both yesterday and today! I have a sign up for eggs, took some to an elderly neighbor, we had eggs for supper and I hard steamed 3 dozen bantam eggs. I am up to my eyeballs! Lol..... we are having record breaking cold temperatures overnight and tomorrow!

Hey guys! 16 eggs both yesterday and today! I have a sign up for eggs, took some to an elderly neighbor, we had eggs for supper and I hard steamed 3 dozen bantam eggs. I am up to my eyeballs! Lol..... we are having record breaking cold temperatures overnight and tomorrow!

20 today!

I sold two dozen today and will sell another 2 tomorrow.

looks like all Gossy's eggs are duds. I haven't messed with her this morning, but I did a bit late last night. she won't give them up easily. today is day 25, so she has til tomorrow morning anyway. poor Mama.
I went to the next town over from where I worked last night, met my brother, SIL, niece and nephew on the skiing trip. we had a great time, supper was incredible... 4 hours flew by like nothing... I didn't get home til 11:15. now I am so whooped and can't believe I have another 11 hour work day. still... worth it!
