Show me UGLY coops- where my peeps at?

How's this for ugly? Recycled chain link pen and scrap lumber shelter... it used to be a turkey pen, but we had a wildfire, turkeys all gone now. Do I win??

Can I just say, I love this thread. I would see all these pictures online of absolutely beautiful coops that cost waaay more than I could ever afford and I definitely had to adjust my expectations when we starting scavenging materials from a friend's equipment yard. It's great to see the repurposing of old materials and that functionality can be achieved to keep the chickens safe and warm and dry without costing an arm and a leg. I have to agree with others that paint covers a multitude of ugly sins

We made ours out of pallets and old barn/fence wood. It's not much to look at, but it is solid and secure. I dressed it up a little inside with some curtains.

i almost thought i was alone, I built my coop entirely from parts i scavenged from an old fence i tore down. Its a simple 4x4x4 box on 2 foot stilts, 7 girls total. The port and starboard walls both have that strip of ventilation. Im looking for predator advice if yall have any. I free range in a suburb, but im the last house in the division so im up against a huge un-developed bit of land.

It looks good!! I don't have much advice since I'm a newbie but all I hear is hardware cloth everywhere!

I had the same issue! Everyone around here wants $450 for their used, needs repair coop that they bought for $500 8 years ago... so DIY has been an adventure. I especially love the tutorials on pinterest with these huge gorgeous coops that say "How I built THIS for only $50!" and when you click on it it's like "thankfully my brother in law gifted me $2000 worth of studs and siding and vinyl windows" and I'm like.. HELLO!! THAT DOESN'T COUNT AS $50!
