Whats with the purple netting? why are they stuck in there?
Single mated, different strains so I can toe punch them and keep track. The chicks that aren't in the netting are leiper/penny crosses and blacks. I can tell them apart. But there is a black/grey cross and a ruble cross that I might not have been able to tell.

Why did you only incubate 12? I figure if your going to wait 21 days might as well load it up to the max

However I do have eggs scheduled to hatch each week for the next 4 weeks. Mostly crosses except for the blacks.

Because I am only mating specific birds. Quality over quantity.
cool. If only humans would follow that wisdom...

I also kind of remembered that your birds got a late start on the laying season.

Crosses... sweet. always fun to anticipate results.

Are you taking a stab at creating your own lines? Or just trying out the Shubin method of breeding? lol
Crossing a few families of fowl that I have. If the crosses are no good then there's no point in keeping the consistent lines.

The only ones I'm really messing around with are the blacks. I had gotten a pair of Mel sims and a stag and another hen all Mel sims but from different areas of the country. Breeding the pair as I got them, then the other rooster to both hens. So technically 3 lines. Can't do the 4th had to cull the other rooster due to injury.
