think ima be doing a lot more fishing this fall winter than hunting. Just in that moodSeason opens oct 22 here. A couple days of hunting wood ducks then it closes til mid November. Blue wings are long gone from here by now.
I think I will be doing a lot more fishing too. I haven't done much the past few years and the hunting hasn't been that great. Maybe I'll tie a few flies tonight to get me in the mood. 90 degrees again today though.think ima be doing a lot more fishing this fall winter than hunting. Just in that mood
I thought I could change ones attitude. I was was wrong. I culled one the other day. Over 2 yrs old. He grabbed the vein in the crook of my arm and started twisting. Some of them aren't worth messing with.
I have broody hens with chicks doing the same with just plain old whole oats. Raising meal worms doesn't seem worth the time or trouble. Buying them is too expensive for the amount you get regardless of the amount, buying in bulk.
Texiicano. Get a real manfighter and he will beat that cup of meal worms right out of your hands and could care less what other treats you could come up with.
black. I would imagine they come in all lines some more than others. From what I've heard and seen from others blacks tend to be the worst when it comes to wild, and nervous type birds. Some may be causedfrom rough handling, inbreeding etc.. Who knows. I don't mind if they are a little jumpy and even a peck here or there but if they don't calm down in a reasonable amount of time when held than it gets old fast. Of course some have proven valuable birds that are worth keeping, best just to leave em alone. The black I culled wasn't mistreated or rough handled in any way. Just mean. I crossed him on another family of blacks to see how they would turn out. So far so good the stags are all acting fine. If they do t though I will cull all of them. What was he? I keep hearing Kelso cocks are man fighters.
I think he will be the one they pull down first. No meanness, just out of play they will skin him alive. Too many young pups their. I would be slight more confident with a broody hen backed up by a rooster to put pups in their place but never tried with so many pups.
i know they would take the worms. I just said its not worth the expense or the time and extra chore of raising the mealworms yourself. I will take a steak over corn any day but it's a lot cheaper to plant a few rows of corn than raise beef. Organic of courseMine will not be so vested in eating grain of any sort unless very hungry in the dead of winter. Even then, I challenge you to provide you birds a choice between meal worms and the best grain or grain mix you can provide. You will find they will invest more in the meal worms / insect fare than they will in the grains.
Just let them have a choice. Film it.
