Any tips? First time getting them. Been reading about the importance of protein during moulting so i picked these up.

These days it is easy to meat protein requirements using off the shelf feeds and feed-stuffs. The value comes from the extreme palatability of meal worms (and insects in general unless red, yellow or blue) that induces them to do more for a given morsel of feed. When I go out with the special meal worm cup and say show me what you got, all the free-range birds come flying. Broody hens will jump into my arms and attempt to dislodge cup from by hand for chicks below. If chicks more that 14 days they will call the chicks into my arms as well. It is special feeling to have a face flogging broody call her brood up on you like that without putting it to you.

you have larva (worms) already... they will cocoon in a few weeks.. and then turn into beetles in another couple weeks.
lol excuse my insect knowledge. Man haven't seen the flock this happy in a long time. Just fed them the whole 50 count container. Two to the stags in the Pens. Might just let the other container cocoon out. I just dropped a couple carrot slices in there and the worms instantly started going at it....and now I'm raising worms....lol....anybody know of a website like backyard worms or something?? Hahahaha....

I'm sure a little protein snack will raise the moral of the flock up a little, as the heat is still beating down on us down here in Texas. They are all still chattering about lol last week I fed them quarter pomegranates and they really enjoyed those as well. Any treat suggestions for next week?

I purchase mine in larger lots to control price. Either get 500 or 2000 count boxes. A 50 count batch could be eaten literal in seconds if container dropped.

I have broody hens with chicks doing the same with just plain old whole oats. Raising meal worms doesn't seem worth the time or trouble. Buying them is too expensive for the amount you get regardless of the amount, buying in bulk.
Texiicano. Get a real manfighter and he will beat that cup of meal worms right out of your hands and could care less what other treats you could come up with.

I thought I could change ones attitude. I was was wrong. I culled one the other day. Over 2 yrs old. He grabbed the vein in the crook of my arm and started twisting. Some of them aren't worth messing with.
