My two cents ,dogs i dont like, ,LABs black ones always ill especially if mixed ,Pits they have a use hog hunting, Pyrennes Roam alot gotta be behind electric fence or they will be at your neighbours, I think its my opinion that you cant tell a Mental dog until it s bout a year old ,and the high bred dogs just have issues ,In my job i see lotsa dogs good and bad ,when people dont use the dog in a way that the dog is bred thats where the dogs get bored and develop issues ,Labs i see wouldnt know what a duck is all they are being used as a watchdog, pyrennes gaurding one goat dont work so they take to wandering ,And Pits no kidding our selves what is a pit bred for Grabbing something and holding on .

As part of job, I encounter lots of people that use dogs around farm. Most dogs used in some sort of guarding capacity though some used for herding. Farmers I deal with, mostly, have little time for hunting and when they do, they are not using dogs. The consensus is that dogs do not mature mentally until about two regardless of breed. With hounds I do remember Walkers would settle into their job much faster than Black and Tans but the final product of the latter we generally liked better if it was a good dog.

First egg of the year yesterday. Not sure why, but a pullet from this year that laid late summer and stopped was in the nest box. Turns out she left a present. No lights, so seems odd to see an egg now that it is cold and snowy. Maybe spring is closer than I think!

Usually the pullets I keep from spring hatch will lay a couple around now then stop till spring. Think it's just a systems check

I will not start seeing game eggs usually until about February. Unless I provide supplemental light. Even if birds where in lay that would not benefit me as conditions not ready to rear chicks free-range in winter. Rare instances where I do have games hatch off in December / January has involved pullets roosting in livery area of barn where we kept light on so we could observe mangers and not disturb stock with frequent comings and goings.

My non-games also will be tying up all incubator and brooder capacity which I do not like for games anyway.

I wonder if that is a splash?  If crossed on a black cock, would the chicks all come blue?

Stags pointed out as brothers to pullets did appear splash to my eye. Pullets though do not look like splash versions on any games I can find on the internet. I have been looking hard for pics of pullets like mine and cannot find any like them. Also can not find other colors that I know exists so that does not alarm me.
