I raise the jumbo cortinux quail, I have plenty of ornamental pheasants., my friend has 500 Hungarians. And 500 guineas. Another friend has three acres of 50x150' pens of game bird pheasants such as ringnecks and multiple colors of ringnecks. I have a couple of people that I can ask and get just about any feather from tragopans, satrys, Palawan peacock pheasants, impians.,

Check out the link below about the mutations of the red golden and u can see some of the ties a friend makes. I would post pics but they are not mine to post.i would love to learn and actually do fly tying.
Your talking mostly decorative salmon flies. There aren't as many people that tie those. Too expensive for the rare feathers.

It's none of my business but do you work? I don't see how anyone can properly take care of that many birds. Adding in gamefowl is the icing on the cake. Chicks are easy, wait til they're grown. If you can do it more power to you. I have a lot of birds and a few inches of rain and I'm out there fixing pens for two days. Diseases would be a big concern too

almost all of the pens have gravity fed systems which last almost a week.....designing a recirculating watering system which should be intact by two months from now....I really don't have to check on the birds that much....most of my time is spent alittle a day making sure things are right....I own my own business....I own a hydroponics store. I do fairly well....besides how muddy you see it is all the coops besides the 20'x20' pen are dry...they have sand on the inside so it stays dry....I am putting a sloped roof on the 20x20 in a bit so that will take care of that....freerangers....they do there own thing....brooders I have to check once a day.....everything is on a st1000 which is a thermostat (digital) so each brooder can be changed to fit the needs of the birds...incubators rotate eggs themselves.....so yeah mostly everything is efficient.....I also own property in Wisconsin as well that I rent out.....we just did a full remodel of the bathroom....now where are remodeling the dinning room and one bedroom...upgraded all doors to digital so no need for keys....I have a lot of freetime plus I have a lot of people that are willing to help on the call of a phone call....moving some redquill, pumkin hulsey, asil, and svart hona this morning from hatcher I will post some pics....getting ready to fly to vegas also...so someone will be taking care of the birds for a week.....be back in a flash....

Quality over quantity
I like to feed and water every pen every day. This way I lay my eyes on all birds at least twice a day. How else would you know if something was wrong? Not to mention I enjoy doing it. Those numbers would make it too time consuming, quality would suffer I would think. I like to handle birds as often as I can and move them around to different pens too. I'm talking chickens though I have no desire to raise game birds of any kind.

I am actually seeing each pens normally once in morning for checkup then midday egg collecting then before night final egg collecting. Thru quantity I have more options when it comes to quality. U will still get quality thru small numbers but u have a much better option when u breed for quantity thru numbers. The more u hatch the more quality birds u will get =the faster the farm will grow. And as u can see my stock all types in lured are in very good shape and quality. I hatch number but I also cull hard as well. If I didn't have the people or the time this would not be an option.
Tibetan quail are on there way this coming week

I understand raising a bunch to select from will allow you to pick better birds for breeding within reason.
What are you planning to do with all those gamefowl? I'm not knocking u I'm just bewildered that you have so many irons in the fire. You might think you can properly care for that many but I'd bet my last dollar you won't be able to. In my limited experience compared to others gamefowl require just a wee bit more work. I have aroun 130 or so birds and it's a second full time job to say the least. Cutting spurs, dubbing, hatching, culling, cleaning pens etc.. anybody can keep a chicken alive but truly keeping them healthy and in good shape all around is d*mn difficult and requires slot of sacrifices imo.

I'm at around 60 fowl right now, and I've hatched around 70 or so. I'm not struggling, but like you said Havoc, each bird needs a certain level of attention to not just keep it alive, but well, healthy, and a living in a suitable and clean environment.

This year I've decided to cull all the pullets, probably keep 3 or 5 Hatch pullets, but the Gradio and new Radio pullets are hitting the chicken mole.

I will share my experiences and I hope to not slow down. I am very motivated and I hope to learn n expand at the same time breed quality. I hope I don't fail. I know I won't bc I have raised 1500 with no issues. 23 of them being peacocks and at the time I orally wormed the birds twice a year. Be patient I will show u what one person is capable of doing. There is a lot that I have done that most people wouldn't believe.
