For a trio - maybe $30-$40

I see layer chicks for sale @ $3-$5... so I figure a game of quail size should fetch at least $10 if not more... x3 for trio ≈ $30-$40

Allow me to clarify, if I developed a family and called it 2x4 kelsos. I been in the game for years and am known ( hypothetical of course ) and I sell my trios for 1500.00 then I sell someone eggs and they raise and sell the offspring for 100.00 a trio. Yeah I think that's chicken ****. You can list all the variables in that scenario but what it boils down to is the difference between a man and a bottom feeder.

I always thought $1500 for a trio was ridiculous. but if someone wants the real deal than they will pay $1500, not $100..

If I paid $1500 for a trio, I would sell the offspring for a lot more than $100 (a trio). But I don't think I ever do that in the first place.

buying/selling eggs gets tricky... because of the risk involved...

The difference is in proven birds. Anybody can get ahold of a hatch but they gonna pay for a real hatch or whatever kind of bird.

For me, that would apply only to actual birds produced in the hands of the original breeder. Subsequent generations from those originals would not qualify, even if breeder gave consent. I would be comfortable saying the subsequent birds were derived from the breeders stock but would be very careful to consider whether something else was bred in and state is clearly is so.

yes sir. That's where problems come in. A person buys birds from a well know breeder with a popular name and then breeds them willy nilly to make as much off of them that he can. All during this process the birds would have to go downhill fast. All in the name of greed. Before you know it you would have full grown cocks standing next to each other enjoying the sunshine.

I guess the main points have been covered. Shouldn't have a problem if you don't try to make money off someone else's name and or hard work.

It takes time to breed the game out when you stay within a line. More time than a typical peddler can invest is likely to be involved. The saying a bird is not game is still more likely to be an empty insult but their is more to being a good game than simply being game. It is those other qualities that require a more consistent hand to maintain.

Whew, good thing I'm not getting games to breed or create a line, seems too much work and the need of A LOT of pens. I'm good with just getting a trio or pair and maybe incubate a few eggs when the cock or hens are old. I'll keep to breeding silkies.
