The near daily rains are really greening things up. Keeping fence clean is difficult. This is the clean row. Rows adjacent to bamboo and silver poplar require machete action more than mower.

The persimmons this fall are going to exceed what dogs and I can harvest. That means many are going to hit ground to ferment. Have you guys ever seen drunk chickens? It can actually be a serious problem as they get lost or simply sleep on the ground. I do not know if they suffer hangovers.

havoc I sent you something.

Anyway...off topic here...
Anyone getting ready for the Total Solar Eclipse in August? Centra, I know you probably are:) My 86yr old Mom - this is all she wants to talk about. I ordered some viewers so she can see it. We aren't in the path of totality, but I think we should see most of it. I need to study the maps better. I guess we could drive to Great Smoky Mountains, but traffic would be a nightmare. That would be a "long trip" for both my parents, so we probably won't do that.

I live in county where NASA is supposedly setting up an observatory for the event. Will be taking day off work and pulling kids out of school for it. We will travel for clear skies. Chickens will be watched closely for responses. Partial eclipses I remember in 1970's did impact birds in cockyard.

We aren't too far outside the "gray area" in the maps, so hopefully it will be great.
Good thought on watching the birds. The other day, we had a storm come through - it turned so dark, even the fireflies were rising up in the lawn - I could seem them "twinkling". Rooster gathered all the girls and tucked them in a corner.
