I'm grateful for any and all help, but I'll be honest I'm forgetful as all get out I usually write what y'all say down or screenshot it. 3 screaming youngns done it to me and they all want or need something different. I apologize in advance if I forget.

Nah I don’t know if I did or not but the longer you wait the better chance you won’t get a bump that grows back some. Combs will also be thicker by then. It’s a trade off.

His was about to start flopping and bout a 1/4 thick of not more at the back. I could see black on some of it from when it dipped into the 20s a few weeks back I just didn't want to chance losing him due to frost bite I am attached to that bird more so than the others don't know why.

Thanks for sharing SDM. Always interesting to see. Not trying to be smart, but why not just use a 16% pellet?
I’m sure you know but different proteins break down differently. I don’t actually know why they weren’t using a 16% pellet but I am definitely in the camp that the big company’s 16% pellet probably isn’t quite as good as everyone thinks.
If they are physically working birds in a keep they would technically want much more than 16% to build and maintain muscle. Just like people birds can be different and respond differently to different diets. Doing it for a hobby is one thing. When money is on the line I would take his advice and not question him. Much more incentive to find a way that works.

Black ain’t no big deal. It’s when it starts totally dying and turns yellow white. Technically they can get a blood infection from it if it gets too bad but none of us live in Canada or Alaska where the temps get crazy low. Vaseline on em helps a little if your worried about them before you can get a chance to dub them.

I've had to dub non game roosters before (box cutter) due to it here with wind chill and I used Vaseline even had one lose a toe , but hopefully no bump will come back it's pretty true as of now.

Some birds will never look as good as others no matter what you do. Just the shape of the comb, head, etc..

Haven’t had one lose a toe before. I do try to keep the pens totally dry, especially once it really gets cold. Add lots of straw. Gets expensive quick but at least I’m not worried about em.
