There is also the across species stuff like done by cowbirds. Females are primary players in that as well when it comes to where eggs are deposited at cost of someone else.

You have a week to sometime 3 weeks when only eggs are in the nest prior to nest holding hen going broody. My hens will not defend nest from other hens until incubation cycle begins.Centra, I wasn't really thinking about it in that sense. I can have multiple females in a pen with multiple nests. For some reason, the most attractive nest is the one that has a hen or eggs already in the nest. I would think a broody hen would be a deterrent, but not always.
Cuckolding is a term I think originally directed at humans as much as birds so species boundary not a key issue. Wild bird people use same term whether victim is same species or not.Across species would seem to be more parasitic rather than deception, but I suppose the outcome is essentially the same...
