Wild songbirds can bring lice and mites. I have seen northern fowl mites and lice. In winter them little birds are everywhere. They get in the pens with the birds. I’ve seen on a few occasions where a cock is on his roost and right next to him is a sparrow.
A couple years ago I posted a pic of a rooster and next to him was a parakeet! Not sure who owned him but he only stuck around for about two days.

I use DE in and around my coops, and cover the birds head after dubbing but that’s it. Doesn’t take the place if insecticides.

ya I think preventative is the point of DE... if I see an infestations I will go for the hard stuff.
 
I said I would be shocked! 100% hatch on cold abandoned eggs. Them darned greys are second to none
