Your blues should be good with any of them, it'll be up to you to decide which one you like the best. What Albany blood do you have? Do you Bates come peacomb or straight comb?


The bates come mostly straight comb. My family has been breeding them for forty years. The albany are johhny moore

Looks like I am going to trim hen spurs and start selecting against them for broodstock. Spur hens not producing as well in terms of number of eggs hatch and it is the spurs that are the problem.

You sure about that? Is it the older hens that are popping eggs?
I noticed, early in the hatching season, that my older non spurred hens were popping egs left and right. No problem with the younger ones. I increased their calcium intake and it fixed the problem. I have a 3 year old and 2 year old double spurred hatch hens that didn't give me any issue. The problem for me was the 4 year old hens.
