You sure about that? Is it the older hens that are popping eggs?
I noticed, early in the hatching season, that my older non spurred hens were popping egs left and right. No problem with the younger ones. I increased their calcium intake and it fixed the problem. I have a 3 year old and 2 year old double spurred hatch hens that didn't give me any issue. The problem for me was the 4 year old hens.
I am confident now that spurs are an issue during incubation as have enough hens in brood in parallel to get a feeling for it. This was a problem suspected for a long time but now confident spurs are bad when incubating a clutch of eggs.

I am having bad hatching rate and high mortality for chicks this year.

I have 6 hens taken away from their pens for failing to lay or failed broods... I am going to rotate them to different pens and see if I cant get better results...

I miss my big aviaries. and I miss free ranging good hens.... but I am scared to lose any of the hens I have left.

Seems like everyone is having a rough year with chicks, hens etc.. I had a hen kick the piss out of a 4 week old chick.
I just fed them and the hen with chicks in the pen next to her was hitting the wire. I thought oh no she’s gone nuts on her little chicks. Instead she was losing her mind cause she saw what the hen did to the chick in the pen next her. I saw her kick it again before I could yank her out by her neck.
I had to put the chick down since she broke its neck.
Wouldn’t you know it that hen laid an egg two days later. She was only good for a month. I’ve had hens keep their chicks with no issues for 4-5 months

These two are always together.
Hatch and Radio Hatch. Technically that hatch is that Radio-Hatch's uncle.
In that last pic they're checking out them mature Radio hens lol
