Do any of you find that young birds get a little skittish as they are going through their final molt to adult plumage? Not all, but some of mine that eat from my hand as young chicks get funny about coming close or being handled. I don't care for flightly birds...

I see it in most even though they turn around to be very tame later. I think it has a biological function related to dispersal from natal flocks in ancestral jungle fowl. When I kept games in a dunghill setting as a kid where multiple flocks where involved over an area approximating about 15 acres, movement between flocks seemed to be associated with that same. They also engage in odd flying behavior at that time.

Yeah a lot of them do. Usually they come back around but not always.

Some color issues I am trying to figure out. I may have stumbled on a sex-linked trait that shows up only in chick and juvenile feather sets.
