But its not illegal to own games. I have NO worries about anyone coming to my house to take away my chickens. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of cockfighters in the US.. any agency would be more likely to go after them, then to come after a regular hard working man with a relatively small farm and no paraphernalia.
In my town there are "huge" farms that have been operating for decades. I know the owners of two of them and they arent trying to hide them, they have them viewable from the road in prestigous neighborhoods.
From what I read, it seems the cockfighting ringleaders are the ones they go after.. the guys who host the events. Some happen to be breeders as well and get their chickens seized after they are caught fighting them.
I am more worried that a cockfighter will buy my chickens then to have someone rat me out for owning "fighting chickens".
John, there are five obvious ways to kill games not including environmental issues like disease and predators. First those lost in the job for working birds. Second is culling that virtually all keepers of poultry employs at one point or another. Third is neglect. Fourth is having birds confiscated. Fifth and last is breeding them in a manner where they are no longer recognized as games and thus others do not value them.
They have potential as a genetic resource and they being squandered because not everyone agrees on their use which often allows for lifespans that exceeds those of even pet birds, especially when pet birds are kept by people with very little knowledge or devote insufficient resources for keeping any kind of animal.
