Ok so i have a question about breeding now. Any input would be greatly appreciated as always. I have a hen that is 1/4 grey 3/4 sweater. The cock im breeding her with is 3/4 sweater 1/4 cobra asil. So whats the chance of the cockerals being grey as their dominant color? i think theres a chance and the odds are slim if im correct but then again this is genetics which can vary from breeder to breeder and bird to bird so it varies but whzt are everyones opinions on this?

If you ID a hen as gray based on color, then she carries a single copy of the dominant silver (S) / gray making allele on her Z-chromosome. All her male offspring will inherit that Z-chromosome and therefore be gray. Her daughters will not get the Z-chromosome so will only be gray if they get it from their father.

The cock side being gray is were you can get differing results and that is because breeder does not always know if cock carries one or two Z-chromosomes with the (S). With some types of gray you can tell if pure or not just by looking at them. With others you must test mate to figure out.
