Is she rough with the chicks or just other birds?

Any hen, stag, or cock gonna get a whooping, soon as I drop a stag in her pen she's going to jump him soon as his feet hits the ground, she pays for jumping on a cock or big stag but the rest of them have their hands full. Her prop toes have been worked on from pen fighting. I let her out with these chicks the other day figured maybe they'll keep her occupied, noooo it wasn't 2 minutes I heard her beating on a pen at a stag twice her size.

A couple of my hens are similarly disposed towards others that will fight back. To use as free-range broodies I have to setup so they have nest / ground roost with chicks well away from pens and on periphery. I have to be their when they are first released from pen to make certain fight does not go too far. Once scrapping done territories need to be kept discrete by putting put feed in each hen's territory before they come off in the morning. Otherwise feeding time can restart the hole mess and chicks do not benefit from it.

I wish I could let all my young ones and a few hens free range.

I am close not being able to free-range anything right. Main dog just lost to car accident so I had to pen up everything except a few near house where remaining dog has more control. There a I got a hen and her late hatch daughter from last year leading a couple broods about together. They are never more than 50 feet apart. Two more hens will be coming off nest soon and I will not be able to have them out too because not enough area.
