It's been in the upper 90*s-100s here, I went in the backyard to feed yesterday & found my 2 year old stag breathing heavily then saw my 1 old stag, that stays with his girls in the front yard, beat to crap but standing. I put him in a pen but when I went out to shut coops that night he was dead. The older stag was up on the roost in his coop, seemed alright, but when I came out the next morning to let everyone out he was dead too The young one is the grey with his sisters when he was a youngster, the other picture is the older one who had already killed 2 others that came around. The younger one had been staying with his girls in the front yard & not even thinking about comng in the back, o well

Sorry buddy... just a risk you take when having free range games. I suffer from similar events at least once a year.

Hope you have some back-up stags/cocks to make up for your losses.

I am guessing the young stag fought till he couldnt take it anymore and then ran, but he was probably suffering from internal bleeding.. maybe both of them were bleeding internally. I had similar happen and it seemed like blood was in their lungs. When I was a kickboxer I would get really bad blood taste in my breathe when I took body shots.
