The frostbite, unless caught early or allowed to drop off makes the dubbing process nasty. The necroding tissue combs off as you handle comb and wattles to trim.
i already dubbed that bird I posted a few pages back with frostbite. His was the worst and it wasn't bad enough to come apart at all. I won't let them get that bad.

Driving me nuts! Lol no the first batch is quail size and the second batch has just got their wing feathers developed. I have noticed that the ones with the best character so far are Albany/Hatch cross. I have another batch hatching Friday, some are under a hen and the others are in a bator. I'm hoping this ice storm hasn't hindered the hatch rate from the hens eggs, we another wave of ice coming through again tonight.
hope they all hatch for ya. I have a few broody hens but it's way too cold still to let em set. I wish I could have gotten an earlier start but it ain't looking like that's gonna happen. Ice storms are terrible. That's worse than the cold and snow.

It not that you let it get that bad, rather it is how far along the necrosis process has gone when you dub. Generally, that first night or day it happens is the worst it gets with respect to what will ultimately fall off. Assuming no infection.

I don't know, the snow suks too. I had a little over 2" of sleet then the melt down water this evening and tonight another round of icy mix. I live on a hill and all the water runs through and around my pens

well that particular birds comb was still pliable and relatively soft. Hasn't been frost bitten too long.
