Thanks guys. It rained hard all d*mn day here again. My yard is flooded in the back. I haven't checked on the birds yet. My guess is I got a few mud balls. Way beyond ridiculous now.

Wheat straw,lots of wheat straw
I swear I just spent 5 minutes with my hand under soupy mud digging around for a feed cup. I look up and there it is over on the other side. It's usually where I was looking.
The whole yard on the right side is just an absolute mess. The yard in the back isn't that bad just wet and a little mud. I will let them dry out first for the next two days then I will clean and add new straw. 4 bales worth I'd say.

The next week or so it's supposed to be in the 90's and mostly sunny. Thank god. I swear the chickens seem like they love playing in the mud. Like it don't bother them in the least.

Watch cause the problems I've had was from them walking it would just stay like soup u may not be able to let it dry u may have to put the straw in to get them above the Mud and they will pack it down then add another layer. I've had my fair share of that

Yeah that's exactly what I do. There is no other way to do it I don't think. There's a few pens in the back corner where I need to wait for the water to recede a little. I don't leave them muddy if I can help it. I usually just add a little for a day or so to keep their feet dry then I go back and depending on the pen clean it all out or just add more straw.

I usually keep one bale for nesting boxes and what not.. Keep it in a big green waste bin (I have extras). then I just wheel the bin over to the coops and drop in handfuls.. saves a lot of mess.
