Some of them do come a little darker, but they should all look alike as far as body shape, feathering, leg color, etc.

And I had one cock with pumpkin hue ( which is darn good ) one chick out of about 50

When all said and done I would rather have "game" chickens than pure chickens.
Every singe well known strain was crossed multiple times to make them what they were. It's done now with "similar looking and style chickens, just different families. Still crossed though.

I do find it amusing though that in most books, articles etc.. They say crossed pullets are worthless cause they rarely pass on their good attributes. Well if that's true how the h*ll did we end up with so many great strains of gamefowl. I understand breeding in and out and all that but once it's in it ain't going away completely. Numbers, culling and testing is the only way. $1200 trios may be equal to $200 trios. All depends on the man/woman behind the birds presently, well that's what I think anyway.

When it comes to chickens and most everything in life I believe what I see not what I hear. I take advice and try to learn as much as I can from everyone who knows more than me but some folks and some popular breeders seem awfully full of sh*t to me.

I have a good friend that paid $10,000.00 for two trios.
I'm sure they were worth it too. You could easily spend that in a few years screwing around with junk and up with nothing.

Yes sir your very right, he also went back to the same breeder and spent another $3000 before he got enough to be satisfied.

Everybody breeds chickens though to their own specs. One family may be great with One guy and useless with another guy in only a year or two based on what he breeds.
Obviously I haven't been doing this too awfully long. But some of the best birds I have I paid peanuts for the eggs. From what I've heard from others they are good. (Leipers)
