Leiper pullet quit on her chicks and Is back setting on a nest in the front yard in the garden under the window.

Correction not a black racer or blue racer . But was a 6 foot chicken snake

6 foot chicken snake that I shot for eating my 4 babies. He was so fat couldnt get back through the wire. Was hanging out where they roost this morning. Bad mistake....

I have a large Bull Snake that can handle 5 week old chicks. Normally dogs kill the snake but this one is hanging out in cane break I made that is too thick for dogs and chicks like getting into during heat of day. I will get him myself and it will not be pretty as premeditating the bush hook method.

Sucks to lose the chicks but at least you were able to kill the snake.

I don't have too many snakes around year. A few small garter snakes and a few years ago I found a 5ft black snake slithering kinda close to my chickens run. I just scooped him up and walked him to the woods and tossed him as far as I could.

I use to see a occasional bull snake in S. Texas, I have not seen one here in Louisiana.

On my property Bull Sankes are fairly abundant as rabbit and rodent numbers are high. Most are less than five feet long. What are more common are the Speckled King Snakes that are easy to find working vole tunnels. They eat eggs occasionally. The usual Chicken Snakes and Racers I have yet to see any distance away from the woods

We have lesser snakes like RIbbon and Ring-necked but they pose no risk. Latter appear to be foul tasting as my chickens will not eat them.
