Minor setback in the yard today.
Rule of thumb: it's a good idea to go around the raccoon traps instead of over them.

I don't understand looking through other threads I see over and over

A rooster has to have x amount of hens 4, 6, 10 or the hens get over bred.

Most of mine currently are paired and I have no problems and I know some here have the same. Do any of y'all have problems? Is it only an issue with non games

Depends on the bird. I think it's because they are running loose or in a bigger area and the hens think they can get away causing more feather loss. Game hens seem to lay down for the roosters more often. Actually my layers just about all lay down for that miner stag so maybe it's just that layer breed roosters get no respect from the ladies

Oh no layers laying down for the miner you're not planning on shubining them huh

Makes sense I've never had layers and the folk That I know that did had no rooster

I had an Easter egger rooster years ago. That sob was the worst rooster I have ever seen in my life. Mean to the hens, man fighter, yet would run from a silkie rooster but wouldn't take any sh*t from the peacock either. Screwy in the head. He would drop his head and run like a bullet and tackle hens by the head. He finally got the lead pipe after he came up from behind me kicking away. I skinned him too. Caught a few bass off that piece of sh*t using his feathers for flies.
