Having confined birds and then introducing new ones will cause problems. If they came from free range setting they will probably know how to act.
There will always be testing of dominance and some fighting, but if you are watching them there shouldnt be a problem with death, as you could remove trouble makers or weak hens/pullets before that happens.

Having perches is important so that hens can escape rooster as needed. Roosters typically wont mount hens when on perch... Also when roosting at night, battles rage for position on a single perch. Having two high perches for night roosting helps this tremendously
