I always wondered that as well...

I remember relatives saying that they leave the water running a little bit so it is always moving and doesnt have chance to freeze. But that is a vague (probably incorrect) memory.

heat tape with extra insulation? we use heat tape in crawlspaces on all exposed pipes to keep pipes from freezing along / most houses do not have basements here we are mostly built off the ground a couple feet// with insulated covers for outside faucets extra insulation on pipes it helps//

Hey y'all northerners I have a question I often wondered, its kinda chicken related. So down here I have a water tank and a pump water is pumped to tank out a well then to my home via pvc pipe when it gets below 28° for over 4hrs I need to either drain the pipe or run the water so the water does not freeze and bust the pipes. If y'all don't mind, do u have to do anything when y'all get like 0° for a week? Y'all don't have exposed pipes? Thanks in advance

I have a well and tank but the pipes are underground til they reach the basement where the tank and water softening system is. All my pipes are pvc. Growing up we just let all the sinks run a little more than a drip. I think what your saying is your pipes are exposed to the air correct? Any homes without a basement my guess is the codes call for thicker pipes and insulation.

Ahhh I see yes my pipes u can see outside and it runs up through the floor (homes 3' above ground). So your tank and pump is in your basement. We can't have basements cause of the water table it would be an indoor pool lol. Like why the graveyards are above ground. There's some folks buried but during floods its possible and does happen for the caskets to pop up and float around. Yep that's real too lol.

That's crazy right there. I hope they have it written into the contracts that you pay once no matter how many times u need buried. Lol not really funny I know

Yeah you can pay extra for multiple burials only problem is if u read the fine print its only a "lifetime" warranty. I know my bad couldn't resist.
