My wife wanted some blue eggs a few years ago, so I got her some EEs then later got her some pure Americanas. There's a lot to the standards of the breed. I later did some research on Sulmtalers that were imported into the United States in 2010 and decided to buy some eggs from the 2 breeders in the United States, after it was all said and done I had all 4 recognized colors to the breed. The next year I bred the blue wheaten back to blue wheaten and got about 25% pyle or splash. The Sulmtaler organization wouldn't recognize the pyle color but would splash. I was the first in the United States with all four colors and the first breeder with the splash. I ended up putting a few in the freezer, gave away or sold all the rest of them, all the EEs and Americanas are gone to. I'll always have something here for eggs year around.

That is too cool, flypen... I used to have Sulmtalers, but had everything except the blues... ended up with too many breeds so they went, but they were a nice sized bird...
I still have Ameraucanas and even Araucanas, but lately been focusing on my Ayam Cemani... they're a completely different ballgame than any of the layer breeds for sure... much more of a game type in personality and in laying... I am enjoying learning though, and all the experiences shared here is much appreciated...

Two toenails ain't bad. Could've been much worse. Good choice in getting rid of the silkie. Silkies can be really aggressive for their tiny size. lol I had one years ago that would mess with an Easter egger rooster. The EE would roll his plump little *ss all over the yard yet he'd keep coming back for more.
That leiper would've killed him in seconds most likely.

Years ago hmmmmm

You don't have problems with cords slipping off those fuzzy legs?

Nah, you have to use the nylon strap kind that cinches down tight. This silkie is a real bad*ss. I've found dead coyotes, foxes, raccoons and even a bear within his tie cord perimeter. Don't judge a book by the cover. It all about heart.

No silkies but I do have a few of these

Got another black that's hatching chicks today too.
So far I'm around 40 chicks. Ugh who wants some?

I have a problem. I can't say no to chicks. Don't offer. Lol. I got some hens for my Leiper today, because the one he's with now is very old. Basically just a companion, she barely lays two eggs a month. I have no idea what they are. They said they had one Kelso, some roundheads, and 2 of something else in the one pen. I wasn't clear on what was what... so I just bought the three they had with blue legs.

My mystery rooster or his dad was the father to my game/EE mix. Her mom was a white EE. So she was red pyle. She was mean as hell and laid blue eggs daily. She messed up and was flying over our 6 ft privacy fence and made a nest outside the fence. No great pyr on guard outside the yard. Honestly she was so damn mean, I didn't want to touch her to move her. Right before her eggs were due to hatch based on when she went MIA, (it took me a week to find her nest), something got her and all the eggs in the middle of the night. They may have started hatching and attracted something with the peeping. I was so mad for not risking moving her. So now I have her mom and either her dad or his son. Hopefully I can get some more. One of my EEs is broody on eggs right now in the pen. I need to move her tonight.
