I am shocked at how little the people on Facebook and at the shows know about breeding their birds. Classes in Animal Husbandry are needed)
I can tell you exactly how the first roosters we showed in late 50's and early 60's were bred (1/2 Griffin 1/4 Allen RH 1//4 unknown) they could take the butter off your toast and you never know they were there....... we were spoiled by having so many country walks and most roosters we met were coming out of roundpens. We showed one of them 3 times in one day untouched and sold him to a guy that fought on major circuit on went on to show him 8 more times and put him on yard to raise out of him and a dog killed him.
I've seen that so many times, the ones you have big plans for will always be the ones something happens to. Some of them 3 ways turn out pretty dang special.

there are two in my area but the a lot of them wont show me there brood stock when I was younger and had game fowl if asked to show my brood stock I would just dont want to get my eyes pocked which was done to me when I was young and starting out I have spoken to some old timer here in my area and they agree with me in seeing brood stock. if I sold you one of my birds example one of my butcher over brown reds and you asked to see both parents Id let you see them in order for you to have piece of mind that is what your getting

It really sucks when you are starting again over from scratch all I have right now are battle crosses as far as babies but I guess we all have to start some where. but I can hand it to the military they showed me to never quit and keep pushing forward till you cant go any further or you give up one of the old timers I speak with out here is very surprised I have babies on the ground he says for someone starting over or starting out should not have babies yet

good morning saying from growpen to pit meaning no keep, conditioning?

Morning All! Enjoying the breeding discussion. If you don't mind sharing... How would you maintain/breed a single pair?
How many would you try to raise?
What about matings for following years?
