I'm not interested in arguing with you havoc. I haven't a clue to exactly what happen can only speculate same as you. From here on out all my breeding birds will be in pens like the above. My domes nothing got into those either so I will continue to use those but without doors as I see fit. That hawk Is not very likely to make a second trip back. What's done is done and no use to worry over something in the past.
I’m not arguing. I will point out though this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a hawk killing birds through wire like a coon. I may have misread your posts. Either way you don’t have to spend a ton on pens like that wooden pen. You just have to build them right and not take shortcuts. I have lost a lot of birds over the years to hawks (all free range) or in the completely open fenced in run. You can probably just fix the pen you have without spending a lot. They’re your birds not mine do what you want. The point is you posted that a hawk killed your penned birds. The only way for a hawk to get in is a big *ss opening. You may of may not be willing to admit it. Gonna have to put you in the same camp as shubin and birdbrain. Lol

You know I was having some issues awhile back. No losses but took the recommended advice from Flypen and sdm111 to just set up an electric fence. I was doing fine trapping the sh*t out of everything but you can’t always be there. Only lost a pair since to a raccoon when I lost power for a couple days. Killed about 30 raccoons after that and counting.

You can judge me however you see fit won't hurt me one bit I assure you lol. I can tell you this I posted what I was told and the animal around the birds at the time also trying to get at my other birds. The one with the dead birds was not a dome and had no gaps prior to all the heavy wind we have got. I should have checked, but to late for coulda shoulda woulda's just do betters.

If a hawk can get your birds through the pen a raccoon will wipe you out one of these days.
Gifted my former Mentor at Ford some ruble pullets last year and just talked to him this weekend...said a couple racoons came and cleaned him out.
They basically pulled at the chicken wire, made a hole, got in the run and started decapitating the birds ):

Said when he was going to do his morning feeding all he found were a couple heads and 2 bodies.....accompanied with a couple sets of coon tracks.
Grizzly stuff man.

It may have been something else I haven't a clue I wasn't there an electric fence may very well be a good idea.
You gotta read between the lines my man. If it could have been something else just make sure your other pen doesn’t have any gaps. A raccoon will run them around a pen til they stick their heads out of the wire and off it goes. I can’t tell what kinda wire is on that window but if it ain’t hardware cloth I’d change it.

I've had one I positively remember a blue grey stag with his head ripped off pulled out the pen some and crop eaten out. He was in a round growout pen I believe or a dome I didn't have any other pens at the time with a couple feathers I didn't recognize

They are brutal. Birds start going crazy and they just go after everything.
