The ground the pens are on is super soft so they don’t get worn down much in that particular area.

Yes sir, I was thinking maybe the ground dirt was softer. I have clay and sand so they keep them toenails short here.

I probably have 70-75% with spurs, I don't care for spurred hens because they break eggs occasionally.

Yeah there is that issue and when they use them on you too. My Grandfather's red hens were spurred. I learned the hard way not to touch their chicks.
