Sorry for what happened lmljsl. Mother nature is a mf sometimes.

I found a radio, black cross, and two pullets dead this morning. They managed to stack each other up between a pallet and I'm assuming they got stuck and a bigger stag probably layed on top of them and probably caused asphyxiation.

Say have yall ever tried those speakers that imitate wild birds to keep actual wild birds away from the area? I wonder if they work for hawks as well...

If you take a mean sh*t near all your pens it will keep all the bad guys away. Foolproof!
Will also prevent asphyxiation

Thanks, such is life! We have a lot of blue jays and crows around that pester the hawks. The crows have learned that when I come out, I often throw things on the compost pile not far from the pens, so they watch for me and come to see what is on the menu.

Never seen a hawk rip off a leg
I'm just assuming... It was a younger chick and had more like tear marks on its body than bite marks. With bigger birds hawks usually lay them out and pull the meat off the breast.

You're right. I got my mother a cool bird feeder for her backyard. A lot of exotic birds started making an appearance from time to time. The other day I was visiting (just went to eat one of moms home cooked meals) and as I was staring at a pidgeon attempting to eat(too big for the feeder) a hawk came crashing down, colliding with the feeder and grabbing the bird at the same time. It then proceeded to hold it down and started ripping at its chest right there on the spot.

Needless to say my mom wasn't as excited as I was at the action lol
