I had 13 hens setting at one time a couple months ago, out of the hens I have 11 chicks hatch. I've hatched 3 incubators full until last week my newest bator had the fan quit right at time me of lock down, 9 died 2 failed to hatch and 8 are still doing great. I'll take a incubator over a hen, oh and I had one hen kill her chicks. Brinsea use to make a Octagon that is one of the best incubators I've used, their new model is a Ovation. I definitely do not like it, it's a little over a year old and it's had 2 new fans.
Some hens are better than others. Lol. Man the ones that screw it up piss me off. I haven’t had the best hatches out of hens this year either. All were first timers except one. Got one more setting now. She hatched two clutches last year so they should be good. I swear those incubators are designed to quit after a couple of years. I ain’t messing with them anymore.

Sorry to hear that flypen. My hens struggled a bit with the really cold spring this year, but are doing well now. Have you ever considered an old Humidaire or Petersime? They are beautiful units and work well. The old one's used mercury switches, which were good, but upgrade to a good quality electronic thermostat and they are great.

I have two incubators operating in parallel. First is a small and new Harris Farms Nuture Right 360 that has been put through 5 cycles since purchased with close to 90% hatch. Automatic turner quit after first clutch.

Second is a home made incubator with redundant thermostats. Fan quit in it during a run but swapped out within hours using a cheap desk fan from Lowe's Home Improvement. Hatch rate even with that pushing 90%.

Hen hatching going well except with one spurred hen and another that set on 25 eggs where clutch was parasitized by another hen. Eight hen hatches averaging a little over 8 chicks per clutch where a pair and five pulled average down quite a bit.

Yesterday it was almost 90 degrees. Today it’s 54 with heavy rain and wind. I had to round up my hen and chicks. Put them in the shed for the night. She was keeping them dry though. She was soaked to the bone with her wings out and chicks under her nice and dry. Great first time 3yr old mom.

Same here. The front that moved through cooled everything off and dropped the humidity!
