Definitely. I posted that link on another thread that was removed.
The point is just how the HSUS see people who own backyard chickens.
Can’t paint with a broad brush yet these organizations do and use it to further their real agenda.
It is tough to lump everyone together. Some do a better job than most. Chicks are too easy for people to buy at the local feed store.

I also keep them more active. I make them walk up a hill to get water and food.. and they always chasing after me in hunger. I couldnt keep up with feeding them and never free fed them.
lol, glad you are not offended! Those birds are amazing. They do not need exercise to build muscle. It is in their genes! Give them food water and shelter. They will do the rest. They have an average feed to gain ratio of about 2:1. They are most efficient in the early weeks and after regular market weight it really falls apart.

Very true. Like everything else though if these groups got their way they wouldn’t stop there. They would keep pushing their will. They don’t really care about the goal. It’s the fight they enjoy.

I am not a fan of battery hens like most I think it’s a bit disturbing. All these people though that push all these changes amuse me. I wonder what they would do when the prices shot up so high they could barely afford anything. They don’t see the ripple effect all the new regs would cause.
Most don’t understand the diffference between animal rights and animal welfare.

Plus they are past their 8 week.. so their body structure might be catching up to their early muscle growth?
Body/skeletal development moves right along. When those birds are grown as "breeders" for the next generation, their feed intake is restricted by about 30%. They still have a big frame, but their muscle mass is greatly reduced. They lay and breed better this way.

The point of the article is to show what the Hsus thinks of chicken owners.

Oh well yes they think we are all idiots... some are, but come on it is not rocket science raising a couple chickens... Yeah I see the whole anti animal industry bent... and the oh my god your hens will die from laying eggs scare tactic quick get them birth control to make sure you create hormonal reproductive issues for them... I am sure it can happen but in my experience with just letting the birds live happy active lives that is not what has killed my hens and I have kept production birds. So it’s a typical propaganda article... you are not capable, you will get sick, you are torturing the animals so give them expensive drugs, see you are just over your head supporting cruelty, only us shelter people can care for chickens we are experts... so yes it is a anti keeping article.

Agree 100z with you.

That’s the problem they don’t just want people to stop eating animals, but see keeping any animal as slavery... and bad. Many really extreme ones believe the best thing is to kill all domestic animals... problem of suffering is thus solved then. It’s crazy I know, and not all animal rights folks are that extreme but they believe only they know best even if they have never kept a horse, cow, goat, dog, gold fish in their life... only they are experts per the propaganda.
