Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

My backup cock Brutus with his girls at 9 months. I lost my alpha rooster this past winter to a freak broken leg accident that happened when he jumped off the top roost.

Beautiful birds !! Where are you located Winkle?

I am seriously interested finding flocks in Michigan, or northern Indiana and Ohio.

Winkle thats a beautiful flock !

Excellent idea having a backup rooster, things happen. I think its a good idea having a back up for the back up.

Thats some poultry "eye candy" there.
How do you keep em so white ?

I wish I could take full credit for them staying clean. They pretty much take care of themselves. We let them out of their coop around noon every day. They can roam free on pasture or wooded areas. They have their favorite dust bathing spot they visit a few times a day. I use deep litter method in the coop with 10lbs of stall dry added under the roosts and a bag of shaving once a week and clean out in spring and fall. I free feed them Turkey Starter/Gamebird feed, oyster shell and grit with ACV in their water.

I do get a few messy birds per hatch but they don't seem to survive the 6-8 weeks I keep them in the brooder.
