Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Stacy, the first rooster has too many points and the second one has odd points plus a wave in the comb. Rooster #1 is the better of the two you posted, especially in the tail area. I like the darker tail for putting great tail black in the daughters. Elvis isn't really deep chested enough for my taste--see how his chest is "cut-in" when viewed from the front? You mentioned Isaac's legs being thicker than Elvis's and that stockiness is really what you want. Some of Ike's sons came out even larger than he is, so I'm hoping for some great birds out of those eggs you took home! I think when you have some of Ike's kids, you'll be able to improve on getting a deeper-bodied bird. And if you get some girls like Gracie, who is Kira's daughter, you'll also have some comb improvement in your girls as well. And her tail black is very nice, too--I really was very pleased when Grace's comb came out so nice, in spite of her mama's.

Hello Dellie lovers~ Good morning!

tnchickenut WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR STOCK? Elvis and his sons are great!

speckledhen you had mentioned that Mr Mc Daniel sells Delawares. Do you know anyone that has his stock? I know he sells his stock on ebay. I just would like to see what his birds look like.

Talk to you guys later, have a great day!

I have found a loving home for my Roo!! I get to take him there this afternoon where he will meet his new lovely Rhode Island Red ladies and can settle down and have children

I am SO glad to get him gone and not in the stew pot! My DD12 has learned to not get TOO attached now I hope. Next time...it's chicken soup regardless. Attitudinous roo's have their place...in a pot.

Oh, yes, I know combs are our biggest problem here. I know "rooster #1" has a bad comb, but I think he is great in many other ways. I love the way he holds his wings, and I like his markings alot too... best of all, though, he is the sweetest, calmest, most baby-dollish (it's a word now!) rooster I have. His comb is the worst part of him, and I think combs are just hard for most, if not all, Del breeders. Am I right?

So, I had my mind already made but didn't want to give it up just yet... I'm going to try to find a "pet quality" home for "#2". He is a pretty good boy and his comb tried to be right, but missed the mark. lol.

Now, Maddy, who hasn't been photographed, he is my worst in every way. He is living with the ducks, and when I get this all moved around (coops and all) he will probrably end up in stew. He is going to be tough meat, but I have no problem with that. Problem is catching him... he is really the worst roo. I wouldn't even give him away in fear he would attack someone. BTW. He doesn't breed with my hens... not allowed around them, and he is only interested in ducks - which is another reason he should go. He is harrassing them and pulling all their feathers out. The boys too! Arg. It's a shame. He started off bad quality but meek and calm. Then a switch got flipped and he needs to go. I was going to let him live in the non-breeding flocks (there are more than one now... I have got to stop getting more chickens!), but I think the ducks have voted him off the island. Have you ever seen a duck fight? it is more brutal than you'd think. Down right scarey.

Thanks for the input.

Kathy- sorry, it will NOT make me change my mind.

However, it's a good article - I copied it!

Cetawin- I tell you, he is one determined, self aware little boy. As long as I remain Mama, we will be OK.

Cindiloohoo- how did you find someone? Did you advertise for a farm home?

Cyn, I still vote for making Ike a little hat with metal spikes to fit over his- those girls will quit biting him once they get a mouthful of metal!

TNhcickenut- yup- combs are driving me crazy right now- I don't have a perfect comb on any of my roos, even the two that appear at this point to have 5 points have lttile bumps that make me suspicious. . . . .

Anyone as depressed as I am about more bad weather this weekend?

Are we remembering to think about Scott?

Who is Scott? I'm not good with names on here yet. Except Cynthia...lol...cause that's my name too.

Scott is Yard Full o' Rocks - I think he has a job interview today!

I think I will advertise at the feed store and see if I can find Rejectible Roo#1 a good farm home- I think he would add some size to a flock, and be a good, good buddy to someone.
