Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hello Humans Owned by Delawares! Reporting in from the Southern Oregon zoo.....

Cannonball and Thor are back together will Fattie and Athena and everyone seems very happy about that. Cannonball was walking over Thor's back to get in her spot last night. She has never learned to go around and Thor still allows her rude behavior.

So everyone is good here.

Beth I wish I could go get that little guy....so cute. Some animal species, the male do know their own offspring and many assist in the raising of the babies.

Dutch was allowed to run loose with the main flock, including the six Delaware wenches-he'd never been with them before. Oh, boy, he was taking nothing off those women! He would dance for one and when she went for his wattles, he jumped at her with both feet and chased her away. He did it to Gracie a few times. Couple of times, he popped one on the head. No one got a bite of Dutch today! WTG, Dutchie!

He still has some minor scabbiness so isn't roosting with them tonight, but I hope he keeps this up.

He's been a good boy lately. When I open the dog kennel he lives in at night, he comes forward and lets me lift him out of it, and he's higher than my head, too. I hope he keeps the Dellie girls in line now. They are just the sweetest girls, especially Georgie, Ellie and Maxie. I just wish they didn't think their man was there for an afternoon snack.

No bites (pardon the pun) on the sale of Kira, Gracie and Phoebe yet. Seems odd, really. They are great layers and Kira's eggs are super jumbo.

Cyn, I called and spoke with someone at the post office letting them know I was expecting eggs either Wednesday or Thursday from Georgia. (Funny phone conversation, most people in Oakland have never even seen a live chicken.) I was kind of disappointed, at first he said they would just deliver one of the "you've got a package waiting" notices to me. I was like, "No! They are alive! They will die if I don't get them in an incubator STAT!" I reasoned with the guy and he said he'd write a note listing that I'd like to be called, but that they weren't obligated. I feel slightly unsatisfied with USPS right now. I did let him know that the boxes were also labeled to call.

That was the first part of the conversation... then I told him I was expecting another box from Washington!

Also- if I were in Georgia I'd take those girls! People don't what they're missing out on by not picking those Dells up.

Cynthia, it's probably because so many of us interested in Delawares and close enough to pick them up are full up? I'd take them in a flash if I could figure out where to put them, but at this point it isn't feasible. Wait till Cetawin gets here. . . . .???? I am glad Dutch has remembered he loves you.

Jeremy- sometimes it seems like the USPS can't be bothered with customer service - I hope you get your call!

I posted this in a different section, but thought I would let my Dellie friends know that I heard the egg song today- Cora's comb has gotten really red, and she spent a lot of time fussing around in the nest boxes today- nothing happened, but I put hay in one of the nest boxes during one of her "breaks" and she got back in there later on and messed around some more. The rest of them decided hay was something to eat, which sort of bothers me- I hope they got enough grit today.

Cyn,

If I could do the drive, I would take them in a second!!! But last week was a fluke, and I had hubby to drive with me. Now he supports my habit, but I don't think he supports it to the point where he will drive 5-7 hrs each way to get them. Driving is really rough for me too. I can only drive Highway any distance, and Only if I can use Cruise Control. I can't tolerate keeping my foot on the pedals for more than 20 minutes or so or my back goes into spasm.

I think they would do better free range, and I know Biden is a bit more aggressive than Isaac. He would certainly get away. Pretty soon I'll be swamped with Roos and Hens.

Jeremy, if they are at all interested in customer service, they'll call. No, they really do not have an obligation to call, technically, but you'd think they'd want to drum up some good will toward the P.O. since they are losing so much business. First eggs I ever sent went to Nebraska. In addition to the customer telling them to call, my huge yellow sticker on her package, they left the box in 100 degree heat on her porch. One hatched and even that one is a miracle.

I didn't mention my sale ad to make any of you feel guilty for not taking these girls, just mentioned it in passing. No excuses necessary! They are not my best hens, standard-wise, except maybe Gracie. Phoebe is really sweet, Kira is a bit more standoffish but not skittish and Gracie, being raised by a broody hen, is a little skittish at times. She's sweet enough on occasion, but will bite your finger if you reach for her and come right for her mouth area.

I told them absolutely under no circumstances should they deliver them. I would come and pick them up! I plan on calling tomorrow and Wednesday until I know they've arrived.

My postmaster and I, I'm willing to bet, will be on a first name basis by the end of the week.
