Everyones pictures are so fun. I love seeing all the Dellies. I will be taking more pictures, I have to put some leg bands on them so I can tell them apart. That way you guys can help me pick which ones to keep and whick ones can go. Since this weekend is a long one, maybe I can get it done. I will see tomarrow. Thanks again for all the pictures, it is fun seeing everyones places too!

All the chickens in the pictures are hatchery stock but no mix breeds... I only hatch purebred dellies from the hen as I am building up my purebred stock of them. Next year I intend to introduce Sand Hills Preservation into the group. My Dellies already have some of the Sand Hills Preservation blood. If I dont like the way the roosters develop I will add Whitmore Farms as they have focused on good rooster developement. My two boys are big and I imagine they are going to wind up being too big for standard but I want my roosters to be big.

Just candled the eggs again. 6 with definite veining. 5 showing no growth at all. 1 cracked on the trip from Mo and unable to fix it and 6 questionable. Too thick shell to see any veining but have dark spots on one side of the shell. Keep praying for these little ones......... Today is day 5. Sure would love some of these little Dellies to hatch.

Thats the thing I have found out about the dellie eggs just wait till day 7 or 8 and you will have much better luck and then at day 14 its really obvious whether they are good or not. I have given up trying to candle any sooner than that.

Calling a Delaware meeting, at the water fountain!

So I candled again last night.. I am gonna have to stop this. Every night is getting a bit ridiculous. It is almost an obsession. However, I got satisfaction last night. 7 have definite veining, and I saw embryo movement in 4. Now that was exciting. I had a bloodring in the cracked one but couldnt see definite veining other so I opened it up before I discarded and found a tiny little embryo so I know that some that I cant see veining in might still be growing. 15 days to go, and 16 still in the bator. This is just so exciting.

Kathy- those girls are lovely- lots of nice tail black, and they look really chunky and full. So, is that Stella or Della giving you the stink eye in the last picture? Your girls also look so pristine- I think mine are permanently beige from lolling around in the dirt under the coop. And I love the pic of Jacob spreading his wings-

Chks- that is great news- I haven't even tried to check mine. I am too worried that Harriet will quit on me if I disturb her nest in any way.

Lizzie is still pretty much a loner in the big pen, I will move her into her own digs with a friend as soon as the other coop is done-
