These were culls, and don't look great. Hatched Halloween. I believe winter hatches produce slower maturing birds, as evidenced by these pictures. Anyway, they are 13 weeks old here ...

That is interesting about them taking longer to mature in the winter..... By the way--7 Del eggs on lockdown. Due to hatch on Saturday. Crossing my fingers. Send good hatching vibes my way. Any good ideas on getting the humidity up. I am hanging at 59% with 2 sponges and the wells full....Aghhhhhh

Jonny Anvil- call "her"- dang it, I still think it's a she- Farouche. I may have spelled it wrong, and I may be remembering wrong, but I think it means "shy, slightly wild, one". I am digging back about 30 years and my memory aint' what it used to be.

If it's a she, she looks like she is at POL. Her tail feathers, if they take after the Del side, would be female.

If that is a pullet, Jonny, it is older than 13 weeks, I feel. It has pullet coloration, but that comb is huge.

I would like to add that they are attention hounds...under your feet, in your lap and on your shoulder types. They are mouthy, nosey and investigating everything...they are great!

I just gotta get me some Dellies! That's all there is to it!! I simply adore the birds who won't take "no" for an answer when it comes to getting attention!

Now I'm 3 pages behind. Stinks sometimes being on the west coast. The riding club sounds fun! I used to ride the Western States trail (not during the race though) with my best friend. She's in Idaho now though.

Okay all...I must relay this to you....on the topic of DELAWARES. LOL

Cannonball as you know has been out of sorts with Thor's passing. Many of you know that she is "DH's Chicken"...the only one he ever held, paid attention to or anything (aside from Thor on ocassion)...well she follows him whenever he is out in the yard and etc.

DH has been gone the entire month and he came home this morning to pick up some extra equipment for the Cadets ... he comes walking up the driveway and Cannonball starts screaming like she is being killed with a butter knife. DH bends down to look under the bush where the noise is coming from and Cannonball launches herself out of the bush and onto his shoulder...she was just yelling at him.

So DH is looking at me with this "WTH?" expression, Cannonball is yelling at him and rubbing her head against his neck....he tries to pick her up off his shoulder and she digs her claws into him and yells louder. He gave up and came walking into the house with a screaming chicken on his shoulder.

She put her head his collar and snuggled with him the entire time he was here.

Cannonball stayed on his shoulder the entire time he was gathering stuff and loading it...I took her off him with a bit of a fight and put her on the ground and she chased after him trying to get in the truck. So, her intentions are to replace the void of Thor with her Daddy, whether he likes it or not.

Serrin - you really need a couple Dellies. yup yup This is Miss Cannonball
