Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I only have two hens/pullets that weigh as much as my two Dellies... my rescue EE and my partridge cochin. They are huge....

My dellies are so calm they eat right out of my hand.

Mahonri- yes that IS a pretty girl!

Cyn, what you said about weight makes sense. . . .if the type is still correct, size shouldn't matter unless of course they get to be the size of GSD's or something!!!!

I have heard mention of Suede but have never seen a picuture of him that I can remember. I would love to see him. Do you have a pic of him on a different post?

14 lbs. He has to be a beauty.

I have a Lav Orp that I won on Eggbid. I know the gentleman was very frustrated because I won him for $1.01. I call him "Buck"

He is huge and I just love him.

I wasn't able to go threw all the posts but I wanted to ask...our Delaware rooster who is no doubt hatchery stock has very little to know barring in his tail. It's more solid with green.I was going to start hatching out Delaware's and not sure now wether to use him because he has that defect about him.My hens are beautiful though and can't find anyone around here close by with ANY Delawares.I know Delawares are a mix with New Hampshire roo and a barred rock hen right? Is it that he could just take after the new hampshire side with the green tail? I want good stock but not finding anyone with even eggs for sale right now.I only saw 6 Delawares at the Ohio National Poultry Show!!! It was crazy! I thought for sure I would see more but they just aren't that popular I guess. They are beautiful friendly birds though!!

Here's a picture of my youngest son herding some of our chickens.LOL

Interesting.

Other than the issue of being fat an unhealthy, I would have thought that for a breed developed as a broiler the bigger the better.

There's so much to learn about such things. Fortunately for me, learning new things is one of my greatest joys.

What a cute flock and flockmaster!

My Del pullets are no where near that size. I definately want to get some from Sandhill this spring.

The poultry leader in our county is willing to lend my son an incubator in the spring (a sportsman without an automated turner) so we will be able to hatch some of our own Ameraucanas, Welsummers and maybe a hatchery Sussex, but Dels will have to come from Sandhill.
