I am forewarned!!! I am also comforted - knowing you are all there right ahead of me in the mayhem and madness does help! It especially helps with Superchick- knowing others have had slow babies. He is wise enough to get out of everybody's way - I watched him hop to the top of the feeder this morning while the rest shot through the air - he knows to keep himself out of the war zone!
If my little climbing baby turns out to be a Roo, his name may be Buckshot! I am not messing with Biblical names anymore, these are NOT saintly babies. And if Baby Blue looks like your lovely girl, Cetawin, I will be very happy! I am doubling the size of the brooder this weekend, and work starts on their run, we will be ready to let the natives be as restless as they want!!!
HOW do you get them to hold still long enough to clean them? The only time they hold still is if I snuggy them under my chin, or go eye to eye with them.
Yes, I can FEEL the long fingers of Delaware mind control methods. . . . .

You should have seen my Dellie girls last night at roost time. There is a long bar that goes along the back wall, between the big roost and the nestboxes. Some roost on it, but mostly they just use it to walk across to the top nestboxes and back. Four of the five Delaware girls lined up side by side like a chorus line, begging for petting. Told my DH, Look at those sweet Dellie girls! Georgie, especially, named after her sire, George, is the worst about begging for attention. They are all really affectionate. Isaac has become the main flock leader with grace and style, no big battles at all. He hasn't gone completely nuts mating all the pretty ladies, but flirts and flirts, only chasing anyone occasionally.

As far as little PocketPooper, she is in too much pain and the joint just goes all over the place, no matter how what we do, so I fear today is the day she will go to that Great Roost in the Sky. She is so healthy otherwise, that it just doesn't seem fair.

Cyn, I am so so sorry about the litle popper. She is such a strong little fighter, you know if I was closer or I would come get her. You and Tom do what you think is best for her....that is all that matters

*sigh* I had this little dream that Pocketpooper would make it and come live with his hatchmates. But it's best, if there is pain, to send him on home to Chickie heaven.

Jessa, I think maybe he has more Columbian? Then again, I am new at all this!

That really doesn't look like a Del at all, but very much a Columbian Rock. The hackles should be barred, but they aren't.

The little pocket chick is still with us. It has an amazing will to live and this is a tough one.

Yes that's a Columbian patterned male. Probably the hatchery that he came from used Columbian Rocks( may be Lt. Sussex) crossed with Delawares to make up enough breeders to supply eggs for the demands of orders. The results of this cross looks sorta like a Delaware without the barring in the neck and tail feathers.

He may also be a Columbian Rock or a Lt. Sussex roo X with a Big Red hen( RIRs, pro.reds, or NHs) these crosses will have results of this color of a bird with the sort rusty red(brassy) that you can see coming in the hackles and saddle feathers.

This is just something that the breeders for the hatcheries do to meet the supply and demands for some not so common breeds.
