Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hey Cyn, I see that she's gettin' some yellow on her legs!!

Isaac's kids are doing great here, and I swear, they've grown since the morning! They weren't very happy today, had to stay in the broder because of the rain.

Isaac's son, Jay, is going to a great home in SC in about 2 weeks. I am hoping that the lady will use him to breed!

I can see the resemblance to Isaac! That watchful yet sweet expression!!!

Sheps, yes! I will send some when I get done hatching! You can help me test my shipping methods too

I am so looking forward to getting them a big hoop tractor to go outside in, in the pasture! I can tell they're missing being out, I think they'll get the first finished hoop house, which should be sometime tomorrow, if weather cooperates! Then I can get some pictures

I did put my Del boy, Big Guy, in with some 3wk old chicks, and he's just the SWEETEST!!! He's a good surrogate Daddy, and snugggles with em and shows em the food and everything!

Is this thread just for photos or is it ok to ask questions?

I found someone selling her breeding flock of Delawares. She is someone who shows and wants $15 for the roo and $25 each for hens. She says that they are show quality birds, hatched from eggs from Bill Braden.

She is 600 miles away and I am low on income right now but could possibly get the money together to buy them, if they are worth it. I'd really like to improve what I've got so far.
What do you all think? Give me your opinions. I thought that I read on here that Braden Dels were very good.

Thanks,
Kim

You just never know until you see them and weigh them......Braden birds are nice and the price seems within the range of nice birds that's a long ways to go look could they post a utube video so you could see the birds first.....good luck on your quest.

I have Bill Braden stock too. I think no matter whose line it is - - - you will have good ones AND bad ones. You evaluate each individual bird. If they are full grown hens and roos - - - paying $15 and $25 is more than fair. I sell my hatchery stock hens for $15 last year and will probably charge $20 this year since feed has gone up so much.

600 miles is a long way away - - have her Take some pictures and post them here and we can help you pick the best ones. You could order hatching eggs directly from Bill Braden. He has a waiting list, but is a very nice man. It is a cheaper way to go and doesn't involve you traveling, isolating the birds, etc.

How many generations has she bred the Braden stock? Cause you can REALLY screw up a line fast without much effort. If they are 1 or even 2 generations from the original Braden birds Id go for it. Cause chances are you'll have something to work with if your expectations are high and don't keep anything less than the very best and work up from there.

That would be my only concern. Id take a flyer on them cause you might end up with a few quality birds to improve your flock. It could be a mistake but then again nothing ventured nothing gained.

Here are the pics that she sent me. She wants to ship them. I don't have an incubator and have had not so good, expensive results from having shipped eggs hatched for me. I must be nuts even considering this, I'm so broke!

This are the birds that hatched out of the eggs that she ordered from Bill Braden on 3/10. She said that she paid $110 for a dozen hatching eggs.
