Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I was wondering about the roo being too upright, since you said something about my roo not being stocky enough and this guy looks even more so.

This are the birds that hatched out of the eggs that she ordered from Bill Braden on 3/10. She said that she paid $110 for a dozen hatching eggs.

Kim

You are being lied to. Bill Braden does not charge that much for eggs, and his birds do NOT look like those crosses in the pictures.

I've heard that Bill Braden does charge quite a bit for hatching eggs; not sure if he always does, but as much as I have issue with some of his Delawares, those pictured are really pretty awful and I'd doubt those came from him. Combs are very leghorn-ish and not suitable at all. Someone has bred in something other than Delaware into those for sure.

have her Take some pictures and post them here and we can help you pick the best ones. You could order hatching eggs directly from Bill Braden. He has a waiting list, but is a very nice man. It is a cheaper way to go and doesn't involve you traveling, isolating the birds, etc.

Here are the pics that she sent me. She wants to ship them. I don't have an incubator and have had not so good, expensive results from having shipped eggs hatched for me. I must be nuts even considering this, I'm so broke!

I have Braden hens and a rooster and they do not look anything like that. KI would question them.

Here are some of the Delawares that I hatched out from HighSpringsChix. They are about 6 moths old now and should start laying any day

This is our Del. hen Frankie. She was out free ranging one day when she went to close to where the horse was eating and he accidentally stepped on her head. Her skin was taken off from top of her head to her shoulder. Thankfully I was there when it happened so I cleaned it out and sewed it up. She also got PCN shots 1x day for 7 days. She has a scar but is otherwise unscathed by her incident. She is lucky she wasn't decapitated!!! She also has the absolute funniest personality

I bought directly from Bill last year, I paid $67.50 altogether.

$50 for the eggs themselves
$15 for shipping
$2.50 for "egg insurance", if any were broken at time of delivery Mr. Braden said he would replace them.

The remaining birds that I have from those eggs look much different than the ones pictured above.

I say go to the source, Bill Braden is a very, very nice man and will treat you right and sell to you honestly. His eggs would be worth the wait. Heck, we are both in California- have him ship the eggs to me and I will incubate them for you if need be.

To everyone else who replied on this subject, I want to express my thanks!

You all have saved me from making a costly mistake and I truly appreciate it! I will tell her no thanks and wait for something better.

The seller is someone who shows and wins. I've searched for her name on BYC and it comes up quite a few times. I wonder if she knows how bad the Dels are? She's advertising eggs on Craigslist for $25 doz. as Braden line eggs. Gosh, buyer beware!

You all are wonderful!
