Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

It is so dang cold here ... Brrrrrr ....

Today I set a heater in there. I put it inside a wire cage, so they can't touch it. They immediately began roaming around, as it was warmer. Outside is zero, inside it was 20, before I put the heater on. I closed the ventilation doors, as I did still have one opened. I am hoping it will be 40 in there. I also have 3 red heat lights.

Geez, I thought I moved away from this kind of cold!

It's winter here in MISSOURI

And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At thirty-five below.

Oh, how I love MISSOURI

When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave MISSOURI

I'm frozen to the ground!

Kathy, when they mature, you may find that your very friendly boy changes a little. Isaac was not the most friendly boy in the bunch, but he's my buddy now.

And I'm in GA and it will most likely be in the single digits for us tonight. I think everyone is having worse than normal winter weather.

Well, I am in no hurry to cull ... so they will be around quite awhile, to make the choice easier (I hope!) ....

BTW .... I didn't write the Missouri poem ... don't know who did, but thought it was fitting!

Since Delawares change so much over time, just keep track and watch him. He may get in some nice tail barring later-it's the solid-looking hackles that I wonder about, if they will change for the better. As I said, Isaac's brother was such a sweetie, then he grew up some and got a bit too full of himself. It's hard to wait, though, I know!!

Good grief, i'm not even going to try and read everything!... yet

Like everyone else said, its been cold! In the negative teens for wind chill. My pullets are making me so mad! They're pulling all my production reds feathers out! To blood! Crazy girls.us I fixed her a little apron to wear. Bologna finally ganged up on Legs like I thought he would, and Heff... Oh boy. Lets just's this has been injury week.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Delgirl- sounds like your bunch is as stir crazy from the weather as I am! Hope no one has a serious injury!

Kathy- they all look nice and chunky and round, unless they are puffed up to avoid the cold. Do the hackle feathers ever molt out and come back differently the way the tail feathers do?
And does your camera wash out the leg color? I have had some pics where the leg color didn't come through - mine all seem to have bright yellow legs at this point.
Is #4 a roo? He looks pretty good. . . . . .

It's extremely cold here - YUCK! I can't wait for Tuesday. . . .

I bet the camera flash is messing with the color a bit, Beth. That one with dark hackles could surprise us. It's way too early to really pick one or remove one from the group (unless you were getting side sprigs on combs or something like that)
