Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

The problem with the sucker tattoo is it's neon -glow in the dark - LIME Green nature. Hair won't hide and it projects from the top of any vehicle or building you are in.

She's a great old soul, I can't wait to go get her. But got to do the legal thing first and that Animal center ROCKS in the level of care it provides.

We're in the process of starting a 501 c 3 (non profit) group to build a rescue transportation hub here in Knoxville. Much of what bogs down the rescue and transport system and it's ability to save dogs is the mandatory 2 week quaratine hold for commercial transport to other states. If we can put together a barn, kennels and excercise field, we can save more dogs by being here for accredited rescues to pull dogs to, for overnights, for short and two week transport holds. Sometimes a place to stay over night or for three days, makes the difference between a dog going into foster care or being put down. It's happened too often here, that I just don't have room. So, we have land, we'll make room. We're going to call it The Way Home. Now I just have to put together the fees to file with the state and IRS. Lots of forms but forms I can handle. Seeing a dog put down because I don't have room for three days. That I can't handle. Especially in the livestock guardian breeds so much help is needed now and often quickly as people lose their homes and farms and must move, sometimes with little notice. I have the forms and non-profit book on my lap right now.

Cher that is awesome...I wish you the best of luck. My hair never hides that "sucker" tattoo either but I do try.

I have been that way all of my life...I once took a "Water Turkey" home to patch it's wing up...my father had a fit and thought I was crazy. LOL

to you, Cher, for being the kind-hearted soul you are. Thank you for saving that poor girl!

As for Algernon, I am very pleased that you got a big tank of a boy from all those you took from here. Sounds like it was worth the trip!

I admire you people that take in and heal the injured animals. I have never been an animal person. We've always had a dog that we loved, but just one at a time. Never even had a cat, until we had a daughter .... then, of course, she had to have a cat! So, we have one dog and one cat.

Chickens, on the other hand, just fascinate me! Crazy, isn't it? My family members are all so shocked, "What? Kathy will chickens?" I was more the inside the house type. I just came in, from sitting outside with them, to get ready for work. It just gives me such a soothing feeling of happiness, when I sit out there with them. There are quite a few that just love to have their chest rubbed. I love it!

DH was with the newest babies (Christmas hatch), and he took a couple of the Delawares outside (it is now 62*). I don't know who had more fun, DH or the Dellies! They are such little explorers, even at this young age! The Dellies are, by far, our favorite breed so far!

Yard, I'm so sorry it didn't work out, but we all know God has a plan for us. He'll show you the path when it is time for you to see it. If it's in Vegas the East Coast will be all the poorer for it.

Cher-goodness you had me crying. That dog is gorgeous, inside and out. To be honest I've seen the story to many times to have cried at the words, for me it was the picture.

My parents were those people who threw away the animal once it became to old and diseased. Not me. I'm the one to medicate, brush, bathe the urine off of it and just take care of the animal until it looks like it's lost all of it's happy. If it will eat, play, love on a person and find any joy in it's day then I feel it's my duty to help it do so.

I think that the great creator gives us those sucker tattoos at birth.

Whew. After 2 days of weighing, tagging, and taking pics, I finally got all 27 youngsters done.
I posted pics of the ones I am selling here. They sure are pretty, and nice. I almost hate to sell any of them. But they do eat a lot.

I would like to sell to breeders first. The breed is so rare, I'd like to see the quality stock go to people who are serious and trying to breed good birds.

A couple of the pullets I am keeping have almost no barring in their hackles, they are mostly black. Can I cross them with roo's that have very light barring on the hackles and get better barring? I don't know the genetics involved. I hope so.

WWDog - I know that look, that Toli look. I used to have a few when I had dairy goats. one thing lead to another and it all went down hill....I ended up giving them all up to one of the rescues. they are now all over the US, with my beloved Al in CA being the smart door opening house dog I always knew he was. even now, years later I wish I could have done better. so I can understand turning an animal over to a rescue, but never just leaving them to die. I am very thankful that there are people out there to help.
I don't think that tattoo says sucker, I think it's more like angel

now about the birds
at what age do the roos start to crow? mine where trying right befor the OEGB got killed, after that nothing

That neck hackle barring thing should be easier than it is. I have two very lightly barred hens bred to a VERY dark barred neck roo - nope some of the progeny have hardly any neck color or visible barring - just dots. I have one unbarred columbian type hen but no unbarred babies, so it must work okay in that direction. And she's massive so she's staying til the best of these kids grow up. You're still a bit early to see if someof the males in particular will develop sprigs, which can be really frustrating at 20-25 weeks.

I like their attitude and their forage skills, and the size and color of their eggs. I'll have other breeds but these guys are staying my favorites.
