Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

After two days penned inside Suede's coop, Isaac got out and went in with his ladies. In five minutes, he had two blood spots and I removed him, put salve on wattles and comb (good thing I can hold him with one arm-he's a peach of a guy!), and put him in the Firetower pen. I just need him to mate them enough to get eggs for three or four more people and then I dunno. I can't leave him in with them, those nagging, picking women. Grrr. Sweet Ike just does not deserve this! Ladyhawk, my friend, are you sure you want to drive 8 hours down to get this boy just after driving cross country? I'd be so exhausted for months after that!

Oh my, so far I have had no problems with my hens picking on Gonzo or Kermie. The first group of hens are a year now, and the second are about 8 months. So far everyonce gets along. If I had anything to complain about it would be the ducks that are in with the second pen. They have a favorite hen that they like to nibble on. She's never bloddy, but she never has any tail feathers. I can't wiat until this weather breaks so that I can build some more pens and get everyone seperated.

Ellen

PS, I've made the drive from Michigan to Georgia many times.

I have to remember to drink two cups of coffee and be wide awake before entering BYC. LOL Scott. I looked at your CR's and thought you were talking about my Dels looking like them. All I could do was stare at the hackles and stare some more! Then the part about the tail came back to me and I re-read and realized you were showing off those beautiful Columbian Rocks! Too funny.
Are Columbian Rocks rare? The sure are pretty and they look huge!

Thanks everyone on the Columbian input. I am going to be able to look the Dels in the eye again! Now onto combs and body type!

As I was trying to sleep I decided that every breed has their own "people" description. Delawares to me are like kids who just got out for summer vacation. They have a zest for life and run around always looking and keeping busy-curious about everything--but happy to come back and hang out with you.

However the Roos have become very territorial of the girls ready to bust the chops of any other challenging roo. They don't even think before defending, they just attack. Scary.

Germaine.....sorry to scare ya. I had already had 2 POTS of coffee when I posted that. Hope you understood....your DEL girls look like my DEL girls. I see no Columbian traits in them. The pix were of REAL COLUMBIAN ROCKS (parents to my chicks) and yes, they seem to be really rare. Took me over a year to find any. Hoping to begin breeding some late summer and with the help of other BYC "hatching addicts".....ahhhh hemmm, where's Kathy?? .... we can re-establish a decent flock of these nationwide.

I'm actually planning to cross mine with my Blue Rocks to get a "Blue Columbian"....will look like a Coronation Sussex (just blue instead of lavender) and MUCH more affordable.

Have a great day!

Scott

Germaine- THANK YOU!!!! All of a sudden I can see the light at the end of the tunnel !!!!!!! That was totally refreshing- I didn't know Cynthia had such beautiful iris- I was there in November. (Sorry I was pouting, but I have fallen twice trying to walk down the driveway to get to the car, DH fell and cracked his ankle, which makes life more difficult, and the wind chill is such that I don't dare put any little eyes and ears outside. . . .I was busy feeling sorry for myself )

Scott- Coronation Columbian. I like it. You and James are the Crowned Heads. OK, bad pun. Never mind, I am on an iris high from the above mentioned pictures.

Ellen- are you a Yooper by any chance?

Cynthia, betcha Cetawin and her DH swing by ON THE WAY to KY. With a silk lined carrier and sterling dinnerware for the boy. And when Thor gets jealous and decides to run away from home, I'll be ready. Hehehe.

Nope not a yooper, but my paternal grandfather was. They were one of the founding families for Detour Michigan.

If you hold up your right hand and look at the bump where the last thumb joint meets the hand......that's were I live now.

Sorry, Michigan joke. It's so nice to carry your map with you everywhere.

I'm about 20 minutes from Lake Huron. And we sure know it after all that lake effect snow today.

Ugh! I can't wait for spring. At least we have beautiful sunshine right now.

HAVE ALOT OF COFFEE READY!!! We can take a couple days to unpack the uhaul, sleep and get their new living quarters ready then come get him no worries. Or you can just load him and Zane up and come up for a few days.... Zane for a nice visit of the new house, some LadyHawk spoiling and a travel companion for you. Do not bring Suede for a visit because I would keep him...the temptation would be too strong if he was right there visiting.

Could you see me running, carrying Suede screaming "NO you cannot have him back" ? hahahahahaha

Beth you are so disillusioned...while I will feed, water, spoil and play with Isaac, Isaac is DH's boy. Thor will have no worries for his mama's love. DH says he is gonna make a little green beret for Ike and take him with him to Cadet Ranger School and build him a nice perch and safety seat in his truck so he can cruise around with him.

You know I would! How far away from my are you gonna be living? I think you are gonna be closer to me than to Cyn; less than 8 hours away. My zip is 64772. Mapquest and see the distance.

You all got the jump on me today, and must be full of caffeine .... with all these posts already.

Everyone .... have a great day!

That's OK Scott, I just had to laugh afterwards!

Beth- You are welcome I believe it is 37 more days until Spring is officially here! I can hardly wait until I see my first Robin. That is always the real sign of Spring to me.

Cynthia, I am so so so sorry about the girls and Isaac.

LadyHawk, you lucky woman!

Kathy drink up and you can post for me too. I have errands to run and work to do and will probably be gone most of the day. I want to play--hear the whine there?

Well, I got 24 of my eggs in the new incubator. I didn't process the fact that it only holds 24 eggs!!! So... now I was planning on stopping by Whole Foods for Tea Tree oil on my way home from a Dr's appt today, I'll have to pick up a few of their loose farm fresh eggs..... They have the Java eggs, the ones I hatched the single white ones from, and a few green eggs of unknown breed. Then I'll grab a one of mine that look like Del's out of the barn that were laid today, and maybe a few from the fridge....and set up the old incubator. Because I can't waste one of Cyn's eggs!!!!!!

No, I am NOT suffering from SDWD!!!!!!

Cyn, I hope you feel better!

Rusty, once the smut comes out, your boys and girls will be wonderful in coloring on the hackles. They have great dark barring.

Kathy - I gave the first dose on the combs, next time I am changing to your Doc's suggested location because I can see everything he mentioned!!! He seems like a diamond in the rough!

DH already has the stuff to fix the coop, we just need to find the time with the good weather to get it up on all fours and put the roof back, fix any damage.

Ok, I have to be off to the MD, I'll chat with Beth, and Scott and everyone else when I get back!!!! TTYL!
